Babies and Children

AT NATIVIDAD:
- Nearly 3,000 babies are delivered each year.
- About 360 babies are admitted to the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit annually.
- There are more than 44,000 Emergency Department visits each year; 1 in 3 visits is for a child.
- 1,200 children make regular visits to our pediatric outpatient specialty clinics.
- Our children are admitted with infections, asthma, developmental disabilities, cardiac abnormalities, and the effects of poor nutrition.
- 1 in 5 babies that come into our care has parents with less than a 9th-grade education.
- Most of our babies and children come from homes whose annual household income is below $15,000.
- Many of our babies live in poor, overcrowded conditions which often lack basic resources for infection control practices that others take for granted, such as running water.
As a safety-net hospital distinguished by its commitment to provide medical care to its patient population regardless of their ability to pay, Natividad provides health care for our community’s most vulnerable babies and children.
