Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS
A $5,000 grant from Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS supports one-time emergency needs of patients living with HIV/AIDS, including food, transportation, utility and rental assistance. Half of patients at the Natividad Immunology Division Outpatient (NIDO) Clinic are insufficiently housed; 70% experience transportation difficulties; and more than 90% live below the poverty line. NIDO has experience a 25% increase in patient volume since 2003, and Latinos continue to be disproportionately impacted by HIV/AIDS in Monterey County making up 70% of NIDO’s patients.
Dr. Allen Radner, NIDO’s Medical Director, says “The grant from Broadway Cares allows us to pay an electric bill or fix a car so that our patients can stay in care and maintain their health.”
