"Flores Sagradas"
"Flores Sagradas" – “Sacred Flowers – is an acrylic on canvas featuring the vibrant colors reflective of Garcia’s indigenous roots, including the ancient “Sacred Heart” milagro. Milagro (the word for “miracle”) is a term attached to a symbol, in this case a heart, that is used to represent the desire for a miracle. Since these milagros are created in the shape of a heart, they can represent the desire for a miracle in the area of love or they can represent the desire for a healing of the heart, either at the physical or emotional level.
“My work is centered on the beauty of our culture, who we are and where we come from. I try to convey images that speak of strength and love through family and celebration all the while focusing on the spirit of women," says Emilia Garcia.
"Although my influence has been from the great Mexican Masters, my inspiration comes from my grandmother’s love and her presence within me. It is through the closing of her eyes that she has opened my eyes to the reality of what I have become.”

Emilia García was born in Los Angeles, California. In 1996, her grandmother’s death and her love of art drove her to leave the corporate world and immerse herself in her artwork. A visual artist, she expresses herself through the beauty and culture of her indigenous roots. As a result of her success, her work can now be found throughout the U.S. and has earned the attention of the international community as well. Her work has been featured on book covers and published in textbooks, art books, magazines and various newspapers. Garcia’s work is currently exhibited at the ChimMaya Gallery in East Los Angeles and the Amsterdam Whitney International Gallery of Fine Art, Chelsea, New York.
