Harden Foundation
The Harden Foundation’s long history of support is evident throughout Natividad Medical Center -from helping with the construction of the new hospital building and medical equipment for the County’s first and largest Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit – to the remarkable philanthropic progress of the Natividad Medical Foundation.
In 2011, a generous $40,000 grant from the Harden Foundation allowed NMC to purchase two (2) specialized pieces of equipment –Pandas – that help maintain newborn body temperature and monitors vital signs in the operating room immediately after Cesarean section delivery before transfer to the nursery. NMC delivers nearly 3,000 babies every year, and about 30% of these infants are C-section deliveries.
Dr. Peter Chandler, NMC’s Obstetrics & Gynecology Services Director, says, “A newborn baby loses heat and moisture very rapidly. These Pandas keep babies warm, hydrated and stable while we work on mom. This equipment is saving the lives of our tiniest patients every day.”
