Hospice Foundation
Grant funds from the Hospice Foundation helped NMC establish palliative care for neonatal and pediatric patients in 2009. Maria lost her 2 ½ month old daughter, Arlene, to a terminal illness. She said, “Losing a child is something painful. But the care our daughter received by nurses, doctors and chaplains was very special for me and my husband. They did everything they could.” In 2010, the Hospice Foundation funded UCSF Palliative Care Leadership Center training for the hospital’s palliative care team.
A new $17,100 grant from the Hospice Foundation in 2011 will allow Natividad Medical Center to equip and refurbish "quiet spaces" so patients and grieving families and loved ones facing the end of life can stay together, including the hospital’s first Palliative Care Family Suite.
