About the Medical Center

Natividad's Mission
Natividad's mission is to continually improve the health status of the people of Monterey County through access to affordable, high-quality healthcare services. Natividad Medical Center has been providing healthcare to the residents of the Central Coast for more than 120 years, and has:

  • A Medical Staff of more than 235 physicians;
  • 172 acute care patient beds;
  • More than 36,000 Emergency Department visits each year, one-third of which are children; and  
  • More than 2,700 newborn deliveries each year. 

Natividad's Patients
Natividad Medical Center is Monterey County's safety-net hospital providing healthcare access to all patients regardless of their ability to pay, including the 39,000 farm laborers and 23,000 service workers employed by the agriculture and tourist industries.

NMC serves a patient population that is 70% Hispanic.  


Natividad's Affiliations - UCSF
In affiliation with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), Natividad is the only teaching hospital on the Central Coast. Recognized nationally and internationally as a model program, the Family Medicine Residency Training Program is a postgraduate training program for physicians specializing in the board-certified specialty of Family Medicine. About 1/3 of the graduates remain on the Central Coast to establish a practice. 


Natividad's Unique Services
Natividad provides unique services not available anywhere else in the County, including:

  • The Central Coast's first California Children's Services-certified Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit;
  • The Sally P. Archer Child Advocacy Center/Bates-Eldredge Clinic, the County's only multi-disciplinary medical-forensic clinic dedicated to child victims of sexual abuse;
  • The Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program providing comprehensive primary care for people living with HIV/AIDS in the Salinas Valley;
  • The County's only hospital-based Helipad; and 
  • The Sam Karas Acute Rehabilitation Unit offering the Central Coast's only inpatient acute rehabilitation program.
