$35 Million Turnaround

NMC “STRATEGIC PLAN: VISION 2010” Unanimously Endorsed by Hospital Board of Trustees

Since 2006, the Natividad Medical Center (NMC) hospital team produced a dramatic $35 million turnaround through improved billing and collections processes, increased government funding and improved reimbursement rates.

Natividad’s “Strategic Plan: VISION 2010,” developed in collaboration with a group of 29 community and healthcare leaders, was approved by the NMC Board of Trustees and presented to the Monterey County Board of Supervisors in May 2008.

The Hospital has set forth “VISION 2010” to be recognized nationally and statewide as an evolving model public Safety Net Hospital. Natividad will be seen by the community as an accessible and desired resource for primary care, general medical/surgical, and women’s and children’s services, and by both consumers and providers as a system associated with best practices, stellar outcomes and high patient and caregiver satisfaction.

There is an increasing awareness of the complexities of federal and state budgets and public healthcare financing in our nation. Natividad is particularly challenged in its role as Monterey County’s Safety Net Hospital, and I invite you to continue reading about the needs In Your Own Backyard.

NMC is the only Hospital on the Central Coast distinguished by its commitment to provide care to everyone regardless of their ability to pay. Safety Net Hospitals like NMC represent only 6% of all hospitals in California but provide care to 85% of all indigent patients in the state and train more than half of the doctors in California.
