Dr. Lew Bauman is the County Administrative Officer overseeing the preparation, adoption, and administration of the county budget of approximately $720 million and coordinating the activities of all County departments. Prior to his appointment as County Administrative Officer, Dr. Bauman was Director of the Monterey County Public Works Department.

Dr. Bauman's professional background includes a variety of positions in the environmental and engineering consultancy field in San Jose and Foster City. Dr. Bauman has both a Bachelor's Degree in Biology and a Master's Degree in Marine Science. At the University of California, Los Angeles, he went on to earn a second Master's Degree in Engineering and later a Doctorate in Civil Engineering.
