The Agricultural Leadership Council (TALC) Receives Hero Award Donates $214,400 During January/​February 2013 Fundraising Campaign

Salinas, CA (February 28, 2013) – Natividad Foundation announced today The Agricultural Leadership Council (TALC) received the Foundation’s distinguished 2013 Hero Award.

Linda Ford, President and CEO of Natividad Foundation presented the Hero Award to TALC founder, John D’Arrigo, President of D’Arrigo Bros. Co. of CA. Other TALC members present to receive the honor were Mike Antle, Dennis Caprara, Steve Church, Tom Church, Andy D’Arrigo, Dennis Donohue, Sammy Duda, Lou Huntington, Senator Bill Monning, Joe Pezzini and Eddie Silva.

Under the leadership of John D’Arrigo and TALC’s 21 other founding members, a membership drive and fundraising campaign was undertaken beginning in January 2013. A hotline for becoming a TALC member was established, (831) 783-​2500, and membership was opened to the entire community for the purpose of continuing the critical work of providing life-​saving equipment and services to those who need it most.

During the campaign, TALC members raised $214,400 and increased TALC membership to 116. Since its inception in 2010, TALC has donated $820,050.

More than 120 people attended the reception and awards ceremony in the main lobby of Natividad, which included a special preview of the “Plein Air Art: From Field to Fork” Art Exhibition by Monterey Bay Plein Air Painters Association. Musical entertainment was provided by Leticia Candelaria.

Special Recognition Awards for bringing toys for sick Natividad patients for over a decade were also presented to Dave Crozier, Crime Prevention Officer’s Association of Monterey County; Doug and Elaine DeGeorge, Kris Kringle Foundation; KWAV 96.9 FM; Starbucks Coffee Company.

TALC DETAILS: In January 2010, John D’Arrigo, a third-​generation Salinas Valley grower and President of D’Arrigo Bros. Co. of CA, founded The Agricultural Leadership Council (TALC) to philanthropically support Natividad and improve the health status of farm workers and their families. TALC recognized the need for necessary medical equipment, diagnostic tools and services and decided that all funds donated will be used for medical equipment and services as determined by TALC. Since its inception, TALC has grown from 22 founding farm families to 116 business leaders, and has raised more than $820,000 to-​date for the hospital.

PLEIN AIR EXHIBIT DETAILS: In 2012, Natividad Foundation teamed up with the Monterey Bay Plein Air Painters Association and TALC-​The Agricultural Leadership Council for a series of “paint outs.” Throughout the growing season and harvest, artists set up their easels in TALC-​member fields, focusing their brushstrokes on the cornucopia of crops grown in the “salad bowl” of Salinas Valley.
