The Art of Better Health

Down Arrow
Winter Fields by Kathy Severns Ohannesian

Donors, patients, and local artists come together through Natividad Medical Foundation’s Art of Better Health program to uplift, encourage, and heal. Through the generosity of donors and artists, the hospital has been transformed into a space that reflects the warmth, culture, and healing strength of our community.

Original local artwork fills the halls, helping create an environment that feels more welcoming and comforting for patients, families, and staff.

Thanks to these gifts, original local art fills the hospital walls and helps create a welcoming environment for patients, families, and staff. The healing through art continues each year as artists from our community partner with us to share original works inspired by meaningful experiences, memories, and moments.

Monterey Bay Plein Air Association

That healing through art continues each year through our partnership with Monterey Bay Plein Air Painters Association (MBPAPA), which brings dozens of original works inspired by an annual theme. This year’s exhibit, A Place to Remember, features 50 new paintings inspired by places that hold meaning, whether through a landscape, a memory, or a feeling tied to a special moment. A portion of the proceeds from this year’s exhibit will support spiritual care services for Natividad patients.

The term “Plein Air” painters refers to artists who go outside and paint in the open, “en plein air,” creating their paintings based on the scene in front of them. Generally, these paintings are relatively small in size because of the logistics of the undertaking and the need to capture the fleeting light and atmosphere. Some of the larger paintings in the show were created in the artist’s studio based on smaller plein air studies.
